When the schedule was announced, not many people would have predicted that when the Kentucky Wildcats traveled to Oklahoma to play the Sooners, the Wildcats would be the ones ranked. But that's exactly what happened: Oklahoma is 3-2 and unranked, while Kentucky is 5-1 and ranked No. 15 in the country.
This is their highest ranking since 2022. The team is led by first-time head coach Will Stein. He's put together a great offense. The Wildcats average 414.2 yards per game, including 181.8 yards on the ground. They possess one of the best offensive lines in football.
Oklahoma EDGE Taylor Wein raved about the challenge of facing Kentucky and that stout offensive line.
"They're super well-coached," Wein said via SoonerScoop. "Super dominant and physical.
One of the best in the country. Their offensive line is very good. I played against one of them last year; he's super dominant. We know they're going to be super physical. They're going to run the ball really well, so we are going to have to do a good job of getting our pads down, striking first, and punching first, punching back and punching last."
For Oklahoma, the matchup will come down to whether its defensive front can hold up against Kentucky's physical style and keep the Wildcats from controlling the game on the ground. Wein and the Sooners will need to win their individual battles, maintain gap discipline, and prevent Kentucky's offensive line from creating consistent running lanes. If Oklahoma can disrupt the Wildcats early, it could put them in tougher situations and give the Sooners' offense valuable opportunities.
After the emotional win over the Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma now has a chance to carry that momentum into another major test. Kentucky's ranking and strong start make Saturday a meaningful measuring stick for the Sooners, who are still trying to establish consistency after their uneven opening stretch. A strong performance up front could help Oklahoma turn its rivalry breakthrough into sustained progress.
