One of the biggest offseason additions for the Oklahoma Sooners was former Virginia Cavaliers wide receiver Trell Harris. The transfer caught 59 passes for 847 yards and five scores in what was a good Virginia offense.
He's part of a revamped wide receiver room. The team returns star wide receiver Isaiah Sategna, who finished with just under 1,000 yards last season. The Sooners also added former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Parker Livingstone in the portal to go along with Harris. He had 516 yards and six touchdowns on 29 catches.
Harris told members of the media that having this many dynamic wide receivers will make things difficult for opposing defenses.
"I feel like it makes it easier," Harris said via OU Insider. "Teams aren't exactly able
to just game plan you. When you have other ballers on the field, makes it easier for you. You get more one-on-one matchups. It's also good to see other guys out there succeeding."
Harris isn't simply adding another name to the depth chart. His 847-yard season at Virginia showed that he can produce at a high level, while Sategna and Livingstone bring their own proven ability to create explosive plays. That gives Oklahoma an opportunity to attack defenses in multiple ways rather than relying on a single featured target.
For quarterback John Mateer, that could be the most important part of the equation. Oklahoma doesn't necessarily need one receiver to dominate every week if its entire group can consistently win matchups. If Harris' prediction proves correct, the Sooners' biggest advantage at wide receiver may not be any individual player; it could be the fact that defenses have too many threats to account for at once.
