The No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats travel to Norman for their second-ever trip to take on the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners hold a 2-1 series advantage, winning the last two in 1980 and 1982.
Both teams enter this game fresh off huge, season-defining wins. The Wildcats knocked off the then-No. 10 LSU Tigers in overtime. The Sooners knocked off the then-No. 1 Texas Longhorns thanks to a last-second field goal. Both teams hope not to let down after those momentous wins.
Offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle talked about the challenges that Kentucky brings. He said the team better be ready to play good football, or it could be a long day in Norman.
"We've got a really good football team coming into Norman this week," Arbuckle said. "We are going to have to have an unbelievable
week of practice. Maybe our best week of practice. We have to have that. Go out there and execute and play really well."
Oklahoma will need to turn that strong week of preparation into four quarters of disciplined football. Kentucky has shown it can handle high-pressure situations, and its overtime win over LSU proves the Wildcats can finish against quality competition. The Sooners must find ways to sustain drives offensively, limit mistakes and make the most of their opportunities against a team arriving in Norman with plenty of confidence.
With both programs coming off statement wins, Saturday presents a chance to show that those wins were more than a one-week breakthrough. Oklahoma has the home-field advantage and momentum from its rivalry win, but Kentucky's ranking and early-season success make this a significant test. If the Sooners match the Wildcats' intensity and execute as Arbuckle demands, they will have a chance to build on their Texas win and make another statement in front of their home crowd.
