The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off a loss to the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. The Sooners trailed 31-6 going into the fourth quarter before falling 41-13.
Oklahoma's offense showed signs of moving the ball at times; however, four turnovers ultimately did the team in. The team also struggled to run the ball again, gaining just 65 yards on 35 carries. While morale isn't high after a loss like that, head coach Brent Venables offered some positive news after the game.
Venables was asked about star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi, who has been dealing with a shoulder injury since the offseason. He hasn't played since the season-opener. Venables said that Fasusi received some positive news.
"All of the most recent scans, he's made some improvement
from where he was," Venables said. "Just looking at the long term, both this season and just overall, give him the best chance to get healthy for the near future."
The update doesn't provide a timetable for Fasusi's return, but the progress is at least a positive development for an Oklahoma offense that desperately needs more consistency. The Sooners managed only 296 total yards against Georgia and averaged 1.9 yards per carry, continuing a troubling trend on the ground.
Fasusi's eventual return could give Oklahoma another proven piece along an offensive line that has dealt with injuries and lineup changes early in the season. After a frustrating day in Athens, the Sooners had few positives to take away. Fasusi's recovery, however, gives Oklahoma one reason to look ahead rather than dwell entirely on what went wrong against Georgia.
