The Oklahoma Sooners' offensive line has been one of the biggest disappointments of the 2026 college football season. The Sooners are 2-2 and have one of the worst offenses in the country.
Coming into the year, the offensive line was looked at as a strength. The Sooners returned four of five starters from last year's College Football Playoff appearance. However, those four have yet to play a game together. Ryan Fodje and Jake Maikkula missed the first game, whereas Michael Fasusi has missed every game since. On top of that, the ones who have played appear to have regressed so far.
Fodje said he believes there is improvement, but they still have a long way to go.
"I feel like Michigan was our roughest game," Fodje said via SoonerScoop."Especially
New Mexico, too. But we got to Georgia; we did some good things, but not good enough. Nothing is ever good enough, and we just need to keep on making good strides and moving forward."
Fodje's assessment gives Oklahoma reason to believe the offensive line can still take a step forward. The group has dealt with injuries and a lack of continuity, but getting key pieces back on the field gives it a chance to build the cohesion expected from the unit entering the season.
The Sooners will need that improvement immediately with the No. 1 Texas Longhorns next. If Oklahoma can turn the strides Fodje mentioned into more consistent blocking, the offensive line could help provide the foundation for a much more productive offense and give the Sooners a chance to make a statement in the Red River Rivalry.
