The 2026 college football season is rolling along, and as we enter the second weekend of October, a crucial Saturday awaits that features a number of very interesting matchups. With over a month of the season in the books, we're starting to see more and more of what's real this year, and what was a figment of our imaginations.
Week 6 offers another chance for contenders and pretenders to reveal themselves, as some face their first real test of the season.
Here at Sooners Wire, we'll be all over the very big game on the docket for the Oklahoma Sooners this weekend, but there's no shortage of exciting matchups during this pivotal week on the calendar.
Here are the top five games to watch in Week 6.
1. Georgia at Alabama, 6:30 p.m. CT
Georgia and Alabama have played in multiple instant
classics over the last decade, and this week's clash looks like it'll be another game that gets added to that last. Two undefeated teams will enter, but only one will leave. The Bulldogs lost this matchup at home in the regular season last year, but got revenge in the SEC title game. Head coach Kirby Smart has a dominant defense and an efficient offense, but the Dawgs haven't played in a game like this yet. Quarterback Gunner Stockton will have to continue playing like a star if his team is going to get the win.
The Crimson Tide have typically had the upper hand in this series, and they're flying high after last week's beatdown of Mississippi State. Now, they'll head back home to Tuscaloosa, where head coach Kalen DeBoer and his team will look to prove they are a true championship contender. Bryant-Denny Stadium will be absolutely rocking in primetime, and if quarterback Keelon Russell continues to play like a star, he'll burst into the national conversation even more than he already has.
2. UCLA at Oregon, 2:30 p.m. CT

The most important game of the day in the Big Ten sees UCLA and Oregon square off in Eugene. Two of the conference's newest teams are looking to stake their claim as 2026 contenders. The Bruins have enjoyed an undefeated start to the season under new head coach Bob Chesney, who has completely flipped things around for the program. However, his team hasn't seen a test like this so far. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava will have to be sharp on the road in this game.
The Ducks have rebounded from their early loss against Oklahoma State, and they got back on track by beating USC two weeks ago. Now, the next test comes at home for head coach Dan Lanning and his team. The Big Ten is very much undecided, and this is one of those games that can go a long way later in the year. The big story is the health of quarterback Dante Moore. If he can't play on Saturday, it'll be up to Dylan Raiola to help get another win in relief.
3. LSU at Kentucky, 6:00 p.m. CT
LSU and Kentucky each have one loss heading into the Week 5 matchup, and both have already bounced back nicely from that defeat. However, in the SEC, it's never too long before another fight comes along. For the Tigers, they've played in a number of big games so far. They followed up a loss against Ole Miss with a win over Texas A&M. Now, new head coach Lane Kiffin will take his team on the road again, with quarterback Sam Leavitt as a player to watch in this crucial game for both teams.
The Wildcats lost to Alabama, but wins over Texas A&M and South Carolina have vaulted the program under new head coach Will Stein. This team was thought to be near the bottom of the SEC, but is now playing in bigger and bigger games as the year rolls along. Quarterback Kenny Minchey has been a great fit in the offense, which will face a stout defense on Saturday night in Lexington.
4. Indiana at Nebraska, 11:00 a.m. CT
Indiana and Nebraska are the other two unbeaten teams in the Big Ten, and that means only one of them will leave Lincoln with that perfect record intact on Saturday afternoon. The Hoosiers are a juggernaut; they haven't lost since 2024. The defending national champs have become a machine, but that machine gets its first real test this week. Head coach Curt Cignetti has another good quarterback in Josh Hoover, and his team will look to keep rolling to another win.
The Cornhuskers haven't been tested yet, but that will certainly change in Week 6. It's the biggest game in a while for this program, and head coach Matt Rhule's team can send shockwaves through the college football world if they can get a win at home. One thing you can't do against this opponent is make mistakes, and quarterback Anthony Colandrea will have to protect the football and avoid giveaways if this squad is going to pull off the upset.
5. Texas vs. Oklahoma, 2:30 p.m. CT

Texas and Oklahoma will face off for their annual neutral-site clash at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas for the Red River Rivalry. This game doesn't have the same luster as some previous years, but it's truly an environment where anything can happen. The Longhorns are undefeated, with impressive wins over Ohio State and Tennessee on their resume. Head coach Steve Sarkisian's team looks like one of the SEC's best, and quarterback Arch Manning leads the way for the league's third unbeaten squad.
The Sooners, meanwhile, stumbled through September, losing to both Michigan and Georgia. Now, another big game awaits head coach Brent Venables and his team, as they can ill-afford to lose three straight and four out of five in the rivalry matchup. Quarterback John Mateer simply has to play better if OU is going to have any chance to beat the 'Horns, but a stout defense will be doing all they can to keep this team in the game.
