The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off their third loss of the season after they fell to the No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats at home, 21-13. The Sooners now travel to Starkville, Miss., to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs are led by Oklahoma alum and Brent Venables' first offensive coordinator, Jeff Lebby. He's turned the program around in his third season, leading them to a 4-2 start. A big part of the success has been star quarterback Kamario Taylor. He's completed 66.2% of his passes for 1,450 yards and 17 touchdowns. He's been an early Heisman contender, but he's dealing with a foot injury that kept him out of the Bulldogs' 31-0 loss to the LSU Tigers.
Sooner safety Omarion Robinson said it's not hard to prepare with uncertainty
about who will play quarterback for Mississippi State. Instead, they are preparing as if Taylor will play.
"I don't think it's difficult," Robinson said via SoonerScoop. "We are going to prepare for whoever gets in there. So, we're just not going to wait and see. We are going to just practice like he is playing."
Robinson's approach reflects the importance of preparation as Oklahoma gets ready for a Mississippi State offense that can be dangerous with Taylor under center. The Sooners must be ready for his ability to distribute the ball and generate explosive plays, while also preparing for the possibility of a different quarterback taking the snaps. Staying disciplined and adjusting to what the Bulldogs show on game day will be critical for a defense looking to bounce back after the loss to Kentucky.
