The Oklahoma Sooners softball train is full steam ahead. Patty Gasso and her staff earned a pair of commitments on Monday. It started with four-star infielder Gia Ryan and ended with more good news.
Five-star infielder Kate McCartney announced her commitment to Oklahoma on Monday via her social media pages. McCartney is a right-handed shortstop who hails from Placerville, California. She plays her travel ball with the Lady Magic and Ponderosa High School. McCartney is a consensus top-10 prospect in the class of 2028 across various ranking services. According to Softball America, McCartney is ranked No. 6 overall in the 2028 class.

McCartney reportedly visited the Sooners in the first week of September, accompanied by Gia Ryan. Gasso and her staff did enough to impress both prospects and earn their commitments, giving OU a solid foundation for the future infield. It also helps that Oklahoma has earned a commitment from the top pitcher in the 2028 class, Sophia Schlader. And one of the top players in the state of Oklahoma, four-star Braylyn Saenz, who is ranked No. 41 in the class.
Softball America ranks the Sooners as having the top 2028 recruiting class.
