New No. 1 in latest SEC Power Rankings

The SEC didn't go undefeated like it did in Week 1, but it still had some significant wins in Week 2. Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Missouri each earned key nonconference wins over Power Four opponents, while Alabama kickstarted SEC play with a win over Kentucky. After two weeks, the SEC holds the top spots in the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25.

There were a number of notable performances. Hollywood Smothers ran for two second-half touchdowns in the Longhorns' come-from-behind win over Ohio State. Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor captivated the college football world with his effortless performance against the Golden Gophers.

Unfortunately, Oklahoma couldn't get in on the good times in nonconference play, falling

17-10 to the Michigan Wolverines.

With two weeks in the books, here are this week's SEC power rankings.

16. Vanderbilt Commodores

Last Week: 16

Sure, Vanderbilt has a pair of wins, but they've struggled against Austin Peay and Delaware. I can't see putting them above Arkansas just yet, but a win over NC State would certainly move the needle. It's the Jared Curtis show moving forward in Nashville.

15. Arkansas Razorbacks

Last Week: 15

Things are tough for Arkansas right now, no doubt, but that is a good Utah team. Can't really drop them below Vandy at this point.

14. Kentucky Wildcats

Last Week: 14

Kentucky had Alabama on the ropes in the first half. Credit to them for coming out to fight the Crimson Tide. Shame they couldn't keep it up for four quarters.

13. Florida Gators

Last Week: 11

The Florida offense is putting up numbers against FAU and Campbell. Will they do the same thing against D.J. Durkin's Auburn Tigers' defense?

12. South Carolina Gamecocks

Last Week: 10

South Carolina drops cause they haven't played anyone yet, while other SEC teams have at least played Power Four competition. They've been dominant in wins over Kent State and Towson, but they'll get their first big chance to prove their mettle this week. The Gamecocks' defense will get a test this week when they take on Kamario Taylor and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

11. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Last Week: 13

Kamario Taylor is one of the most fun players to watch in all of college football at this point in the season. Mississippi State's win over Minnesota was as dominant as we've seen from the Bulldogs in a long time.

10. Missouri Tigers

Last Week: 12

Austin Simmons looks like one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC through two games, and the Missouri Tigers took care of business against Kansas to move to 2-0. That team is going to make a lot of noise in the SEC this year.

9. Oklahoma Sooners

Last Week: 5

It was a disappointing performance for the Sooners up in Ann Arbor. The defense was pretty good but could have been better. The offense, though, was a letdown. It wasn't efficient enough and couldn't convert on third down. John Mateer was inaccurate, and Ben Arbuckle wouldn't stick with the running game. Oklahoma has a lot of questions to answer.

8. Auburn Tigers

Last Week: 9

Auburn earned a one-point win over Baylor in the season opener and proceeded to throttle Southern Mississippi 43-8. Pretty strong start for the Alex Golesh era at Auburn.

7. Tennessee Volunteers

Last Week: 8

Tennessee earned a 21-point win over Georgia Tech on Saturday, led by running back DeSean Bishop. Bishop ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns, giving Josh Heupel and the Volunteers a strong nonconference win for their resume.

6. Alabama Crimson Tide

Last Week: 7

The Alabama Crimson Tide made a number of mistakes in the first half that allowed Kentucky to take a 17-13 lead through the first 30 minutes. After halftime, it was all Crimson Tide. Bama outscored the upstart Wildcats 32-0 to win in dominating fashion.

5. Texas A&M Aggies

Last Week: 6

Texas A&M had a fight on its hands with the Kenny Dillingham-led Arizona State Sun Devils. The Aggies were up just four points going into the fourth quarter but took over in the final 15 minutes, outscoring the Sun Devils 24-0, buoyed by a pair of pick-6s from the Aggies' defense.

4. LSU Tigers

Last Week: 1

LSU led just 10-7 at halftime, and Sam Leavitt threw a trio of interceptions. This is still one of the better teams in the SEC but that kind of performance knocks them down a peg or two.

3. Georgia Bulldogs

Last Week: 3

Georgia jumped out to a 49-6 lead over the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky on Saturday and looked explosive in the process. Gunner Stockton was 13 of 16 for 234 yards and five touchdowns. Does Georgia have an offense this year?

2. Ole Miss Rebels

Last Week: 2

No letdown for the Ole Miss Rebels as they jumped out to a 27-0 lead over Charlotte in the first half and cruised to an easy win. All eyes will be fixed on Oxford this week when they welcome Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers.

1. Texas Longhorns

Last Week: 4

You beat the No. 1 team in the nation with a 21-point fourth quarter; you deserve to get a bump to No. 1 in the rankings. If Texas can build on that win, this could be the season that Arch Manning supporters have been hoping for.
