The Oklahoma Sooners moved on from offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle on Monday after another disappointing performance from the OU offense. According to SoonerScoop and The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, the Sooners will name tight ends coach Jason Witten as the interim playcaller.
Witten is in his first year as the Sooners' tight ends coach after making the jump from the high school head coaching ranks at Liberty Christian in Texas. Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Witten had a long career with the Dallas Cowboys, one that will eventually put him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Sooners offense ranks No. 109 in the nation in scoring at 22 points per game and is 111th in total yards per game. Despite the returning production and experience
on offense, the Sooners are second-to-last in scoring and yards in the SEC. Only ahead of Arkansas.
As head coach at Liberty Christian, Witten's offenses averaged more than 40 points per game in his five seasons. Twice they averaged more than 50 points per game.
