The Oklahoma Sooners may have beaten New Mexico, but their offense didn't inspire much confidence in the 14-6 win. Oklahoma dropped three spots in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll after Week 3.
This Sooners offense looks like the worst of the Brent Venables era. And that includes the injury-ravaged 2024 season. Oklahoma limped their way to a 6-7 finish that season and made a change at offensive coordinator. The Sooners have to find answers on offense if they hope to remain among the top 25 and beat teams like Georgia or Texas, the next two teams on the Sooners' schedule.
Mississippi State, the next-highest SEC team, ranked second among those receiving votes. With wins over Minnesota and South Carolina, they probably deserve a ranking, while Oklahoma
probably doesn't.
The top five teams in the nation remained the same after Week 3, led by the Texas Longhorns, who received 46 first-place votes. Oklahoma's next opponent, the Georgia Bulldogs, remained at No. 2, and received 16 first-place votes.
Ole Miss, who had the win of the weekend, beating LSU in Oxford, moved up three spots to No. 6 in the nation.
This week, 10 SEC teams are ranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The Sooners play five games against teams currently ranked in the top 25. It starts with Georgia next Saturday in Athens.
