The Oklahoma Sooners may have saved their season with an improbable 27-24 win over the No. 1 Texas Longhorns, 27-24 in the Cotton Bowl. Oklahoma came through with big plays on offense, defense, and special teams, getting a complete performance in the win. Now at 3-2 and 1-1 in SEC play, the Sooners have an opportunity to earn a playoff berth if they can do one thing.
Just win.
John Mateer was efficient in the game, completing 69% of his passes, and none bigger than the two completions to Isaiah Sategna in the final minute of the game to set up the game-winning field goal from Tate Sandell.
But that was only made possible because of a defensive effort that didn't quit. The Sooners battled all game long and frustrated the Texas offense with two sacks,
five tackles for loss, and two interceptions.
It was one heck of a win for the Sooners. Hopefully, this is the spark they needed to go on a run over the next two months.
