The Carolina Panthers may be set to bring back a recently-waived defender.
According to Mike Kaye of ESPN, the Panthers are planning on signing linebacker Maema Njongmeta to their practice squad. The 25-year-old was let go from the active roster on Tuesday to make room for offensive lineman Torricelli Simpkins III.
A Ngaoundéré, Cameroon native, Njongmeta entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2024—out of the University of Wisconsin. He would spend 2024 and part of the 2025 campaign with the Cincinnati Bengals before being signed off their practice squad by Carolina last September.
Njongmeta would go on to appear in 15 games for the Panthers, totaling 10 combined tackles and a forced fumble. 234 of his 239 snaps came on special teams.
In
Carolina's Week 3 loss to the Cleveland Browns, his lone appearance thus far this season, Njongmeta forced a fumble on the opening kickoff of the second half.
