One of, if not the best player on the Carolina Panthers roster is reportedly drawing some outside interest.
Joe Person of The Athletic, through the ups and downs of the team's defense here in 2026, highlighted the outlook for defensive tackle Derrick Brown in a fresh offering on Thursday. And included in the piece was this interesting little nugget . . .
. . . teams have inquired about Brown ahead of next week’s trade deadline, according to a league source. But the Panthers have shown no interest in moving him.
That last bit should be music to the ears of the Carolina faithful, given their organization's penchant for dumping their stars in recent years. The Panthers traded away running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers in 2022,
wide receiver DJ Moore to the Chicago Bears in 2023 and outside linebacker Brian Burns to the New York Giants in 2024—all moves that were met with varying degrees of vitriol from fans.
Oh, and Carolina's playoff hopes—despite their recent woes—are far from dead. In fact, they enter Week 9 with a half-game lead atop the NFC South—so keeping your top player is probably the wise decision, right?
Brown, a Pro Bowler back in 2023, is currently in his seventh NFL campaign. Through seven games, he's posted 21 tackles (one for a loss), three quarterback hits and five passes defensed.
