When it comes to the second of two starting linebacker jobs, the answer may not have been on the roster for the Carolina Panthers.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Panthers have agreed to terms on a deal with free-agent inside linebacker Bobby Okereke.
A third-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts from the 2019 draft, the 30-year-old Okereke is now set to enter his eighth NFL campaign. He’s split his pro tenure between Indianapolis (2019 to 2022) and the New York Giants (2023 to 2025)—having logged 805 combined tackles (34 for a loss), 7.5 sacks, seven interceptions, 11 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries over 110 games.
2024 third-round pick Trevin Wallace and fourth-year veteran Claudin Cherelus were in a competition for the
starting spot next to Pro Bowler Devin Lloyd, who the Panthers signed to a three-year, $42 million this past spring. Okereke, who has accumulated at least 130 tackles in four of his seven seasons, will presumably be under consideration for the duties next to Lloyd.
