The Carolina Panthers have made two more additions to their initial practice squad for the 2026 season.
As announced on Tuesday afternoon, cornerback Zion Childress has been added to the group. The most recent stop for the second-year defender came with the Dallas Cowboys, who waived him back on Sunday.
A Houston, Texas native, Childress split his collegiate career between Texas State University (2020 to 2021) and the University of Kentucky (2022 to 2024). Over a combined five seasons, he amassed 283 combined tackles, 3.0 sacks, an interception and 17 passes defensed.
Childress cracked into the NFL with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He'd then be signed off Dallas' practice squad by the Houston Texans in September of that season,
only to be waived in October.
Dallas brought Childress back on their practice squad two days later, then signed him to a reserve/future deal in January.
Along with Childress, the Panthers also signed guard Torricelli Simpkins III—a 6-foot-4, 312-pound Charlotte, N.C. native. Simpkins would play his college ball at North Carolina Central University from 2020 to 2023, then at the University of South Carolina in 2024.
