With a slim lead atop the NFC South heading into Week 8, the Carolina Panthers should be looking to buy going into this year's NFL trade deadline.
Their list of needs is easy to sort out. With Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson on injured reserve
, they need another boundary cornerback. They also need help on both sides of the line of scrimmage, where they're getting pummeled in pass protection and run defense.Bleacher Report sees at least two potential trade targets for Carolina on the horizon. In their latest trade big board column, they have linked the Panthers to Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Zach Sieler.
Kristopher Knox writes:
$10 million of Sieler's 2027 salary will become fully guaranteed on the third day of the new league year. Releasing
him with a post-June 1 designation before then would save the Dolphins $13.2 million in cap space. While the Dolphins did pick up their first win of the season in Week 7, they're not a playoff team. Sieler, who has 17 tackles and two sacks this season, would be a great fit for a team that can make the postseason . . .
Carolina is also connected to Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Moro Ojomo:
Roseman has already dealt center Cam Jurgens, and if the Eagles do believe their season is done, more moves could be on the horizon. Defensive tackle Moro Ojomo would be a valuable trade chip if this is the case . . . The 25-year-old has 18 tackles, two tackles for loss, and nine quarterback pressures this season as a rotational player. He's set to be a free agent in 2027, and the Eagles appear unlikely to re-sign him after extending both Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter this past offseason.
Either one could be a valuable addition for a unit that lacks depth.
Derrick Brown continues to do fantastic work, often eating triple teams in the process. However, the rest of the group is still lagging behind.
Specifically, last year's free-agent pickups Bobby Brown and Tershawn Wharton have either been injured half the time or not making an impact at all when they are on the field. That's put a lot of pressure on rookie Lee Hunter, who still needs time to grow.
Adding a proven veteran at this spot could help take some of the pressure off of Brown and improve Carolina's woeful run defense problem.
