The more we learn about the Carolina Panthers' loss on Sunday to the Cleveland Browns, the more devastating it becomes. Falling to the "Factory of Sadness" is bad enough, but they also suffered some devastating injuries to several key players.
On Wednesday, we learned that the team placed starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson on injured reserve as a result of their setbacks from Sunday. Horn sustained a significant quad tear while Jackson, who underwent surgery on Tuesday, exited with a groin issue.
According to head coach Dave Canales, Horn and Jackson could both be out for roughly eight weeks—give or take. And these issues are just the tip of the iceberg—as the Panthers have dealt or are dealing with injuries to quarterback Bryce
Young, running backs Jonathon Brooks and Trevor Etienne, wide receivers Chris Brazzell II, Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, offensive tackles Ikem Ekwonu, Taylor Moton and Monroe Freeling, guard Damien Lewis, defensive linemen Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown III, outside linebacker Nic Scourton, inside linebackers Devin Lloyd and Claudin Cherelus and safety Nick Scott.
To make matters a bit more troubling, the Panthers are about to embark on the most difficult portion of their schedule—beginning with a home game against the Detroit Lions and their obscenely-talented wide receiver duo of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, who combined for over 2,500 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns last season.
In the locker room today, Jackson was asked about the unfortunate timing of the injuries. He replied with a quip from a teammate that said they have to stop doing everything together . . .

Funny, and also a little bit sad.
For now, the Panthers will roll with rookie Will Lee III and veteran Akayleb Evans at the boundary corner positions, but we shouldn't be surprised if they sign a free agent or pull off a trade for extra help at this spot.
