To the victor go the spoils. And the spoils, in the Carolina Panthers' case, could mean a player or two from the team you just beat.
Carolina may have put at least one of the final nails in the coffin of the 2026 Philadelphia Eagles. After the Panthers' 25-14 win on Sunday sent them to a fourth straight loss, the 2-4 Eagles shelved starting quarterback Jalen Hurts—who is now working to recover from a scary blood clot diagnosis—for the rest of the campaign.
If Philadelphia's chances of contending for a playoff spot are also done for the season, then perhaps they'll look to sell off a few of their assets. Those might include tight Dallas Goedert and cornerback Riq Woolen—both of whom Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated sees as potential trade fits
for Carolina.
Verderame writes of Goedert:
Rumors have suggested the Eagles might move off Goedert as he’s aged and dealt with injuries, missing at least three games in four of the past five years. Yet, Goedert has held on, and now might be the time for Philadelphia to cut ties. Goedert is 31 years old and hasn’t had 600 yards since the 2022 season. He won’t bring a premium, but Goedert is a useful player with a ton of postseason experience.
Amazingly enough, the Panthers seem to be alright in their tight end room. The trio of Darren Waller, Mitchell Evans and Tommy Tremble—who scored a pair of touchdowns against the Eagles in Week 6—has more than sufficed for what has become one of the league's top offenses.
Woolen, however, is much more intriguing. Given the long-term injuries to cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, Carolina could certainly use a capable starter—especially a 6-foot-4 one with Seattle ties—in the back of their defense.
Verderame also links the Panthers to wide receiver Quentin Johnston, a member of the winless Los Angeles Chargers:
Johnston has been a roller-coaster ride throughout his four-year career. He’s notched more than 700 yards in two of his three full seasons, but he also has a well-chronicled drops problem and has never caught more than 60.7% of his targets. Still, at 6'2" and 208 pounds and slated for free agency after this year, he’s an enticing addition who has 16 touchdowns over the past two seasons.
In addition to his size, Johnston's downfield prowess should intrigue general manager Dan Morgan. With 2024 first-round pick Xavier Legette still injured (and still not very useful), adding a deep threat alongside Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker may open up their passing attack even more.
The trade deadline falls on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET.
