Well, we might have to add two more pretty big names to the Carolina Panthers' ever-growing injury list.
Starting right guard Robert Hunt did not fully participate in the team's second outing of training camp on Friday. Head coach Dave Canales told reporters that the Pro Bowl lineman was experiencing back tightness after yesterday's session.
"So we're treating him, we're gonna get him evaluated," Canales stated. "Just trying to get full imaging, just making sure there's nothing in there.
"These types of things pop up early in camp. We're used to this. League-wide, this is a common thing. So we gotta make sure we get him healthy before we get him back out there."
The Panthers are already without their usual two starting offensive tackles in Ikem
Ekwonu (knee) and Taylor Moton (blood clot), both of whom are expected to miss time into the regular season. Veteran free-agent signee Rasheed Walker and 2026 first-round pick Monroe Freeling are slated to bookend the trench in their places.
Carolina didn't get a practice out of starting cornerback Mike Jackson either. Like Hunt, Jackson is dealing with back tightness.
"Same thing. We're treating him," Canales added of the ascending corner. "It's kind of a chain. If your back starts to tighten up while the rest of your soft tissue, your hamstrings, quad, flexor—everything else starts to tighten up. So it's imperative we get all of that settled down before we throw them back out there to do things."
Jackson is the latest defender to pop up with a setback.
Thursday's installment saw starting outside linebacker Nic Scourton go down with a season-ending ACL tear. The Panthers have also sidelined defensive linemen Tershawn Wharton (neck) and Bobby Brown III (hamstring) as well as their other starting cornerback in Jaycee Horn (toe).
Canales said both Hunt and Jackson will undergo full imaging to determine the severity of their injuries.
