We were all treated to a little surprise on Wednesday, when the Carolina Panthers noted quarterback Bryce Young on the first injury report of the week with an ankle issue. The fourth-year passer and former No. 1 overall pick had been on the listings dating back to Week 4 due to a bothersome knee—so this new development certainly raised some eyebrows.
But Young's ankle, nor his knee, will keep him out here in Week 9.
Head coach Dave Canales put any concerns to bed this afternoon, telling reporters that Young will be up for Sunday's matchup against the Denver Broncos.
"He looked great this week," Canales stated. "He had a phenomenal week of practice. He was moving around, doing all the things we know he can do.
"Had some soreness on Monday. We did
our due diligence, and everything's fine. But that's information we have to be aware of and also that we have to report.
"That being said, he looked great today. Yesterday was a fantastic day for him. Moving around on third down, some of the things we were doing. So, he's ready to go, he's fired up to compete this weekend."
Given the amount of punishment Young has taken of late, it may have been a shocker if he wasn't carrying around some wear and tear. Over the last two games, losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers, he took 11 sacks and was pressured on nearly half of his dropbacks.
Unfortunately, facing the daunting Denver defense behind a struggling offensive line probably won't give Young much of a break from that heat.
