The worst-case scenario for Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Nic Scourton may be confirmed.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Cameron Wolfe, tests have revealed a torn ACL for Scourton—who was carted off from the first practice of training camp on Thursday. The 21-year-old, per Rapoport, is expected to undergo surgery in the coming weeks.
After the session, head coach Dave Canales was asked how the Panthers' pass rush would be able to fare without Scourton.
"We got guys," Canales told reporters. "That's why we keep bringing in depth and talent and different guys. Jaelan Phillips in that room, Pat Jones is back and Princely [Umanmielen] is coming along. We got a whole group of guys that we're counting on. So if comes to that, we have
guys that we trust and we're gonna ask to do different things."
Scourton, one of the defense's two projected starters off the edge, tied for a team-high 5.0 sacks as a rookie in 2025.
