Another one of former Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer's draft misses has missed the cut this weekend.
According to ESPN's Mike Kaye, the Washington Commanders are planning to waive outside linebacker DJ Johnson. The 27-year-old was a third-round pick of Fitterer and Carolina back in 2023.
The Panthers traded up to the 80th overall spot of that year's draft to select Johnson, who spent five of his six college seasons at the University of Oregon. He'd go on to make just five starts over 31 appearances for Carolina into last season—amassing 62 combined tackles and half a sack.
Johnson would be waived by the Panthers in late September of 2025. He then joined the Commanders' practice squad in December, and returned on a reserve/future
deal this past January.
Wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr., a second-round selection by Fitterer's Panthers back in 2021, was also let go—by the Miami Dolphins—on Sunday.
