The Carolina Panthers had this week off, giving them a much-needed opportunity to rest and get healthy after a slew of injuries to key players. For starting quarterback Bryce Young, hopefully that means his wide receiver corps can recover—as both Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette were banged up going into the bye.
Carolina's offensive line also needs all the help it can get, and that may be on the way—as right tackle Taylor Moton is set to have his practice window opened this week. But even with atrocious offensive line play, Young has been spectacular so far this season.
Here's where Young ranks statistically going into Week 6 . . .
- Completion rate: 62.3 percent (22nd)
- Passing yards: 1,268 (ninth)
- Passing yards per game: 317.0 (first)
- First downs: 63 (eighth)
- Yards per attempt: 7.8 (ninth)
- Passing touchdowns: nine (tied for eighth)
- 20+ yard passes: 17 (tied for fifth)
- Passer rating: 100.0 (15th)
- QBR: 74.8 (sixth)
- EPA/play: 0.235 (eighth)
- Success rate: 46.7 percent (17th)
- CPOE: 5.7 percent (tied for sixth)
- Air yards: 9.2 (tied for seventh)
As expected, Young's rankings have tumbled a bit in first downs, touchdowns and the traditional counting numbers. (That's
what happens when a QB takes a week off.) His advanced stats and efficiency numbers, however, are still very impressive.
Up next for Young and the Panthers is a road matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, who have fielded the NFL's 24th overall defense and 26th-ranked pass defense.
