It's now been six and a half years since the Carolina Panthers released Cam Newton, bringing an end to the most successful era of their history. (We'll choose to ignore the forgettable 0-5 run Newton went through in 2021 with former head coach Matt Rhule and remember the good times.)
Speaking of good times, they're officially back—as the franchise appears to have finally found the successor to Newton in starting quarterback Bryce Young.
Through four games, Young is playing at a previously unseen level—one that has put him into some early Most Valuable Player chatter. And he's coming off what might have been the best game of his career, throwing for 329 yards and two touchdowns against the Detroit Lions last Sunday night.
In so doing, Young became
just the second quarterback in team history to pass for at least 300 yards, a pair of scores and zero interceptions in a prime-time outing.
Watch Newton welcome Young to the club in a video he shared on his Twitter/X account . . .
Next up, the Panthers will visit Young's hometown Philadelphia Eagles—who have lost three straight games going into Week 6.
