The hamstrung Carolina Panthers simply didn't have enough to pull out a win against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8. Between another makeshift offensive line, a very depleted cornerback room and an opposing pass rush that wouldn't quit, Thursday night's matchup was just too much to take on—leading to a 27-19 loss.
So, where was the good and bad on the film?
Here are the team's best and worst Pro Football Focus grades from the defeat . . .
Players listed recorded at least 10 offensive snaps or 10 defensive snaps.
Grades listed are provided by PFF as of 10:00 a.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 30.
Best of the offense
1. LG Corey Bullock: 88.5
2. RG Robert Hunt: 69.2
3. TE Mitchell Evans: 68.0
4. C Luke Fortner: 64.5
5. RB Chuba Hubbard: 63.4
As a whole, Carolina's offensive line put
forth one of the more futile performances you'll see—as quarterback Bryce Young was pressured on nearly half of his dropbacks.
Nevertheless, three hog mollies found their way into the top five—with Bullock, in place of an injured Damien Lewis, leading the way. Bullock earned team-high marks in both pass blocking (85.5) and run blocking (83.8).
Due to the constant heat, Hubbard was a busy man—recording 81 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries along with seven receptions for 38 yards.
Worst of the offense
11. RT Monroe Freeling: 54.9
12. WR John Metchie III: 54.4
13. TE Tommy Tremble: 53.6
13. LG Jake Curhan: 53.6
15. TE Darren Waller: 46.6
Freeling was charged with three pressures, one off of left tackle Rasheed Walker's team-high. He was given a team-worst 51.1 pass-blocking grade.
Best of the defense
1. DT Lee Hunter: 90.0
2. DT Derrick Brown: 89.7
3. S Zakee Wheatley: 86.2
4. DT Tershawn Wharton: 70.3
5. ILB Devin Lloyd: 66.8
Hunter and Brown were both stellar in run defense—with grades of 90.1 and 91.2 in that department, respectively.
Wheatley continues to impress the folks over at PFF, as he's now up to three games of an 85.7 overall grade or higher. He registered seven tackles and his first career interception.
Worst of the defense
13. CB Marco Wilson: 53.8
14. DT TeRah Edwards: 53.4
15. ILB Bobby Okereke: 51.5
16. OLB Princely Umanmielen: 48.5
17. CB Will Lee III: 30.2
Lee was charged with giving up five catches for 88 yards on five targets before exiting with a hamstring injury.
