Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks appears to be going back on the shelf.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Brooks is set to undergo surgery today to repair a core muscle injury. Per Rapoport, the procedure will land the third-year rusher on injured reserve and sideline for at least six weeks.
Following this past Sunday's 34-3 win over the Atlanta Falcons, head coach Dave Canales told reporters that Brooks re-aggravated the groin injury he sustained late this summer. The setback did keep Brooks out of the final days of training camp, but did not stop him from playing in the first two games of the regular season.
This is just the latest blow to the injury-riddled career of Brooks, who appeared in three games prior to 2026
due to a pair of ACL tears.
In his two outings this season, Brooks rushed for 30 yards on nine carries and reeled in two receptions for a combined 43 yards.
