The Carolina Panthers offense didn't have much going for it in Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns. One exception to the rule was the production they got in the passing game from their tight end room.
Mitchell Evans, Tommy Tremble and Darren Waller all did their part—as Waller came out on top with five grabs and 51 receiving yards. Through three weeks, Waller has been the team's best pass catcher at this spot, as expected—totaling 10 receptions, 112 yards and two touchdowns.
Going into Week 4, Waller has been named one of this week's best waiver wire pickups by Bleacher Report. Alex Kay writes:
Due to a rash of injuries to the Panthers' crop of pass-catchers, Waller wound up playing a much larger role than the one he assumed over the first two
weeks of the campaign. He tallied his highest volume of offensive snaps (39), targets, receptions and receiving yardage since joining the club and could continue to build on those now that top receiver Jalen Coker has joined fellow wideout Xavier Legette on the injury report.
In addition to the injuries at wide receiver boosting his stock, Waller has a pretty juicy matchup this week. The Detroit Lions have allowed far more fantasy points to opposing tight ends this year than any other team, giving up 351 yards and six touchdowns.
