When it comes to running back Jonathon Brooks, Carolina Panthers fans may have to hold their breath for the next few days.
Brooks, in the first practice after the team's cutdown to their initial 53-man roster, was seen working off to the side with trainers on Tuesday. That, of course, isn't the greatest of signs—especially considering the 23-year-old's devastating injury history.
Head coach Dave Canales was asked about Brooks following this morning's session.
"JB's got a little soreness," Canales told reporters. "I won't get into specifics right now."
Again, that may put a scare into the Carolina faithful considering Brooks' past. The third-year back has been limited to just three career games as a result of two ACL tears.
This offseason marked the
first full slate of workouts for Brooks as a pro. He appeared in two of the team's four preseason outings, rushing for 23 yards on eight carries.
Canales, in what may be a silver lining to this latest development, did also note that he will not provide details on any of injuries before next week's lead-up to the regular-season opener. Gamesmanship, perhaps?
In an extra bit of good news for Carolina, starter Chuba Hubbard—who has been dealing with a hamstring injury—was able to return to practice today.
The Panthers will kick off the campaign at home against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Sept. 13.
