Carolina Panthers fans, you might be able to take a breath when it comes to running back Jonathon Brooks.
On Tuesday, at the team’s first practice since the conclusion of training camp, Brooks worked off to the side with trainers and was not a full participant for the morning session. Wednesday proved to be more of the same, as he was seen riding a stationary bike.
But head coach Dave Canales, who attributed Brooks’ absence to “a little soreness” yesterday, told reporters this afternoon that he’s “very optimistic” that the third-year rusher will be ready for Week 1.
The Panthers selected Brooks in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. But a pair of ACL tears, one sustained in the college and the other in the pros, has limited him to just three
regular-season games.
Brooks made his NFL preseason debut a few weeks ago, in the team’s exhibition against the Buffalo Bills. Over his two appearances this summer, he rushed 23 yards on eight carries.
