Every NFL team and their starting quarterbacks go through peaks and valleys each season. Right now, the Carolina Panthers and quarterback Bryce Young are in a valley.
After a brilliant start to the season, Young's game has fallen off a bit over the last couple of games–mostly thanks to poor pass protection. Young had been thriving despite that issue early on, but it's not fair to ask any quarterback to thrive all season despite facing the most quick pressures in the league.
Young has taken 11 sacks over the last two games and coughed up four turnovers, while managing just two touchdown passes total. As you can imagine, that's taken a toll on his season numbers.
Here's where Young ranks statistically after Week 8's loss to the Green Bay Packers.
- Completion rate: 58.7 percent (29th)
- Passing yards: 1,921 (eighth)
- Passing yards per game: 274.4 (fourth)
- First downs: 91 (eighth)
- Yards per attempt: 7.1 (tied for 15th)
- Passing touchdowns: 13 (tied for 10th)
- 20+ yard passes: 23 (tied for 12th)
- Passer rating: 89.2 (28th)
- QBR: 60.0 (17th)
- EPA/play: 0.071 (18th)
- Success rate: 43.5 percent (26th)
- CPOE: -0.2 percent (19th)
- Air yards: 8.4 (tied for ninth)
Next up, Young will face a tough Denver Broncos defense. They led the NFL in sacks last season and rank fourth, with 23, heading into Week 9.
