The Carolina Panthers may have just turned one of their biggest weaknesses into one of their greatest strengths.
And that's thanks, in huge part, to president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan—who landed a deal with veteran inside linebacker Bobby Okereke over the weekend. Morgan spoke about the addition this morning.
"We kept in contact with his agent all through summertime, all the way leading up to when we signed here a couple days ago," Morgan told reporters on Tuesday. "He's a veteran guy, he's been productive in this league, he's super smart, high football IQ, really fits what we do schematically on the defensive side.
"So putting him next to Devin Lloyd—we felt were two big, long, rangy guys that can cover, they can blitz,
they can do a lot of things. So we felt like he was a really good fit for what we do."
Okereke, who's proven to be one of the NFL's more productive linebackers over his seven-year career, was officially signed on Monday. He'll join 2025 Pro Bowler Devin Lloyd, one of Morgan's big free-agent signees from this past spring.
Morgan would later confirm that the plan is to start Okereke alongside Lloyd in the middle of the defense. The pairing is an immense upgrade over what the Panthers have fielded there in the past few seasons—a run that has gone through the likes of Josey Jewell, Trevin Wallace, Christian Rozeboom and Claudin Cherelus.
Carolina also signed seventh-year vet Tyrel Dodson to their practice squad. The 28-year-old is coming off career-highs in tackles (129) and sacks (5.0) from his 2025 campaign with the Miami Dolphins.
