On paper, the Carolina Panthers look inferior to their Week 6 opponent. The Philadelphia Eagles have been to two of the last three Super Bowls and have a roster stacked with talent on both sides of the ball.
However, the Eagles are far from healthy going into Sunday's matchup with the Panthers. Their offensive line is battered by injuries, their right tackle Lane Johnson just suddenly retired and they're down to their practice-squad running backs.
Carolina has plenty of injury issues of their own, but at least one analyst thinks they can pull off a win this week. John Breech at CBS Sports is predicting a victory for the Panthers:
Besides being out of running backs, the other problem for the Eagles is that they've struggled to stop the pass this
year and they're facing a Panthers team that is SECOND in the NFL in passing yards per game. I never thought in my entire life that I'd type out anything like that about Carolina's offense, but here we are. The deck is stacked against the Eagles, so I have no choice here; I'm taking the Panthers. PICK: Panthers (+1.5) 27-24 over Eagles
It's not a wild take given the situation. In fact, they were one Xavier Legette drop away from upsetting the Eagles the last time they visited Philly two years ago.
Plus, the Eagles' struggling offense may not be able to take advantage of what might be the Panthers' biggest weakness—their banged-up cornerback room. Even without starters Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, Carolina might not have too difficult of a time keeping down the league's fifth-worst passing attack—especially if it's still missing their top wideout in DeVonta Smith.
