The Carolina Panthers have parted ways with a defender.
As announced on Tuesday, cornerback Tyrek Funderburk has been waived off injured reserve. The 25-year-old was waived-injured with an undisclosed injury during the team's cutdown to their initial 53-man roster this past weekend.
A native of nearby Indian Trail, N.C., Funderburk spent the first five years of his collegiate at the University of Richmond. He'd use his final year of eligibility at Appalachian State University in 2023—where he recorded 46 combined tackles, half a sack, four interceptions and two interception returns for a touchdown en route to a first-team All-Sun Belt selection.
Funderburk would break into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024.
He made a pair of starts over 13 games a rookie—amassing 14 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass defensed.
After sitting on the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad in 2025, Funderburk signed a reserve/future deal with the Panthers in January of this year.
