Could a former top-five pick help patch up the Carolina Panthers defense?
Bleacher Report has listed Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Solomon Thomas as the No. 7 player on their latest trade block big board. And with the Titans at 0-3, analyst Kristopher Knox suggests that the 10th-year veteran may become available while listing the Panthers as a potential suitor.
Knox writes:
Thomas is set to be a free agent in 2027, and if he isn't going to see the field often in Tennessee, the Titans should look to cash him in. He has strong rotational value, as evidenced by the 27 tackles and three tackles for loss he recorded last season.
Carolina's avalanche of injuries has swept up starting defensive linemen Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown III. Wharton has yet
to appear in a game as he recovers from offseason neck injury while Brown has been playing through a bulging disc in his back.
The results haven't been clean either. Through three weeks, the Panthers have allowed a whopping 193.3 rushing yards per game—the most in the NFL by nearly 14 yards.
Although Thomas never lived up to the billing of the third overall pick the San Francisco 49ers used on him back in 2017, he might be able to provide some much-needed depth for a banged-up and struggling trench.
