When it comes to fantasy football, the Carolina Panthers have generally been out of the conversation in the post-Cam Newton era. However, there may be a couple of exceptions to the rule on the roster right now.
Carolina's No. 1 wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan is becoming a consistent producer, and their No. 2 option Jalen Coker may just be blooming into an explosive offensive star. And the guy throwing them the ball, quarterback Bryce Young, may also be worth considering this week.
Young has an interesting matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, who he's had a ton of success against. He lost the first start of his NFL career against Atlanta, but he's reeled off four straight wins against the Falcons since, totaling 1,133 passing yards, seven touchdowns
and two interceptions in five career meetings.
According to Moe Moton at Bleacher Report, Young is one of this week's best fantasy football sleepers. Moton writes:
Bryce Young will face a divisional opponent who has struggled against him at home. Over his last two road matchups with the Atlanta Falcons, Young has thrown for six touchdowns without an interception . . .
Young's history against the Falcons isn't the only reason to consider him, either. Last week, he passed for 361 yards (the second-highest mark of his career) and scored four total touchdowns in offensive coordinator Brad Idzik's first game as a play-caller.
Plus, Carolina's defense allowed a ridiculous 59 points against the Chicago Bears. Although Atlanta isn't going to score that much, there's a decent chance that the Panthers' defense isn't nearly as good as we thought it would be coming into this season, which would force Young into a more pass-heavy kind of script and boost his numbers.
Then again, the Falcons defense may be going the other direction. Despite low expectations coming into the season, Atlanta finished Week 1 with the second-best EPA in the league after stifling Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf and the Pittsburgh Steelers' run game.
It's a toss-up—but if you're in need of quarterback options this week, Young is definitely worth a long look.
