Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales gave us a bit of insight into the latest bump in the road for running back Jonathon Brooks.
On Wednesday, the team placed Brooks on injured reserve due to a nagging groin tweak. The setback first occurred during the summer and sidelined him at the end of training camp, then was re-aggravated in Sunday's 34-3 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Following Wednesday's practice, Canales confirmed reports from earlier in the morning that suggested that Brooks is headed for surgery.
"Yeah, it was a pretty significant groin injury," Canales told reporters. "We got multiple opinions about what's the best course of action. And Jonathon's gonna have surgery to repair the injury. And the timeline of return, with surgical
or non-surgical, was gonna be similar."
This won't be the first time Brooks is going under the knife. The 2024 second-round pick appeared in only three games prior to the 2026 campaign due to a pair of ACL tears.
Canales was later asked about the estimated timeline of return.
"I believe the window was like six to eight weeks," he replied. "I don't know exactly. But they just kinda gave us a general window. Some guys are faster, some guys are a little bit longer. Once the surgery happens, then we'll see how his progress goes on the rehab."
Brooks will now miss, at the very least, the next four weeks while on injured reserve.
