A former Carolina Panthers draft pick has a new home.
As announced on Wednesday, inside linebacker Michael Barrett has signed with the Baltimore Ravens. The 26-year-old defender was selected by the Panthers in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Before his jump to the pros, Barrett spent six seasons at the University of Michigan—where he amassed 208 combined tackles, 8.5 sacks, two interceptions, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries over 62 games. He finished up his time with the Wolverines as a two-time third-team All-Big Ten member and a national champion in 2023.
Four months after he was drafted, Barrett was traded by Carolina to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for cornerback Mike Jackson. Jackson has gone on to emerge as one of
the Panthers' top defenders—starting in each of the team's 35 games, including playoffs, since the deal.
Barrett would go on to pick up additional stints with the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and Las Vegas Raiders as well as with the United Football League's Birmingham Stallions and St. Louis Battlehawks. He has yet to log a regular-season snap in the NFL.
