You know, the Carolina Panthers could probably use a bit of help on their offensive line right about now.
And they may be getting it, or at least a bit of change—according to head coach Dave Canales. When talking with reporters today, following last night's pressure-filled loss to the Green Bay Packers, Canales acknowledged the need to adjust in the trenches.
"Yeah, we'll look at all those opportunities and we're evaluating them every week to kind of see who can help us and what's the best unit to put out there," he stated. "But we certainly can do better—and it's not just the o-line. That goes all the away across the offensive side to be able to find a version of football to be really effective and be balanced."
Thursday's 27-19 defeat saw quarterback
Bryce Young chalk up six sacks. He was pressured on nearly half of his dropbacks, consistently having little to no time to allow passing plays to develop.
The unit was hamstrung by some key injuries, specifically the knee issue that sidelined starting left guard Damien Lewis. Then, in what felt like an appropriate development in a season full of harsh setbacks—Lewis' backup, Corey Bullock, had to make an early exit due to a quad contusion.
Canales was later asked for an update on Brady Christensen, Carolina's versatile hog molly who has been out all season with a hamstring injury.
"Brady's doing great," he replied. "He's one of the possibilities that can be in the mix for this conversation as well."
Christensen has NFL experience at all five positions along the offensive line. And given the current state of this unit, he might be of use at any of those spots.
