Whether or not there's any fire behind the smoke, Derrick Brown's name has been popping up as the NFL trade deadline nears. But it may be another Carolina Panthers defender who actually has a chance of moving by Tuesday.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, in dishing out his latest news and notes, wrote on Friday
that the defensive tackle market is "hot." Among who could be drawing interest is Bobby Brown III:Washington’s Daron Payne was drawing interest before he got hurt. Obviously that’s off the table now. Grover Stewart’s an option, with the Saints’ Davon Godchaux and Nathan Shepherd, Patriots’ Christian Barmore and Panthers’ Bobby Brown III others who’ve come up in trade talks. To this point, the Eagles have said no to teams on Moro Ojomo
(more on him in a bit), and the Dolphins have done the same with Zach Sieler.
Brown is currently in the second season of his three-year, $21 million pact. But between a few injuries and some underwhelming play, that deal has not turned out well for Carolina as of yet.
The Panthers have started Brown in six of his 22 regular-season contests since signing him. He's totaled 38 combined tackles and half a sack.
Breer added that teams such as the New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings have been inquiring around the league at the position.
