The Carolina Panthers picked a pretty bad day to have a bad day. (Sorry, Luke.)
Here's everything we know from the horrifying Week 7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . . .
Final score
Buccaneers 43, Panthers 13
Keys to the game
- The Panthers were absolutely dominated in the trenches. With quarterback Baker Mayfield still nursing a thumb injury, the Bucs dialed up the ground game all day—as running back Bucky Irving rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. Carolina allowed a total of 258 rushing yards.
- Defensively, Tampa Bay hit up quarterback Bryce Young for three turnovers—two interceptions and a strip-sack. They also sacked Young five times.
It was over when . . .
If the Panthers had any sliver of hope coming out of the break down 33-6, it was quickly taken away.
Young was sacked on back-to-back plays to squash their opening possession of the second half. Their next drive ended with Young's second interception of the afternoon, as safety Tykee Smith jumped a pass to wide receiver John Metchie III.
The Bucs would tack on a 44-yard field goal off their fourth takeaway of the game, giving them a 30-point lead with 6:30 left in the third quarter.
Players of the game
- RB Chuba Hubbard: seven carries, 33 rushing yards, four receptions, 27 receiving yards
- TE Darren Waller: one reception, 50 yards, touchdown
- ILB Bobby Okereke: 10 tackles, one pass defensed
What's next?
The Panthers (3-3) have a quick turnaround, as they'll travel to face
the Green Bay Packers (4-2) at Lambeau Field on Thursday night.
