As announced on Thursday, tight end James Mitchell has signed with the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad. The 27-year-old was let go by the Carolina Panthers this past weekend as part of the cutdown to their initial 53-man roster.

A Big Stone Gap, Va. native and Virginia Tech product, Mitchell cracked into the NFL as a fifth-round pick of the Detroit Lions from the 2022 draft. He'd go on to appear in 30 games with one start as a Lion, amassing 13 receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown.

After spending most of the 2024 campaign on Detroit's practice squad, Mitchell would land with the Panthers on a reserve/future contract in January of 2025. He played in five games for Carolina last season, where he made three

catches for 28 yards.

Mitchell is now the second former Panthers player to sign with Dallas' practice squad this week, joining defensive lineman and preseason standout Elijah Garcia.
