Some Carolina Panthers fans may see the firing of defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero as an addition by subtraction, but their team might end up making actual additions to fill the void.
On Friday, the Panthers parted ways with Evero and defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley. They'd also announce that defensive line coach Todd Wash will assume the role of interim defensive coordinator—which, in part, leads to a few vacancies on the sidelines.
So, head coach Dave Canales—when addressing the decision this afternoon—was asked if he plans on adding outside help to his staff.
"Yeah, we're talking through, just to kinda see who's available to be able to come in and fill some spots," he replied to reporters. "But right now, Renaldo Hill, he'll
take over the secondary and really help Wash with the coverage unit, the tools, those things.
"AC Carter, who's done a phenomenal job with the OLBs, he'll now be coaching front. He'll take on the defensive tackles as well. That frees up Wash to be able to do more of the coordinator responsibilities."
Hill and Carter both joined Carolina's staff in 2025. The former began his tenure with the team as an assistant before his promotion to secondary coach this season.
