The Week 4 status of Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jalen Coker might've just taken a hit.
As announced on Saturday afternoon, the Carolina Panthers have elevated receiver Ja'seem Reed from the practice squad for tomorrow's matchup against the Detroit Lions.
Reed's elevation could indicate that Coker, who has been ruled questionable with a quad injury, will not be able to suit up for Sunday night. Head coach Dave Canales indicated as much on Friday, telling reporters that Reed could be called up if the team believed Coker could not go.
"We'd like to push it as far as possible," Canales said of testing Coker out into the weekend. "And that was kinda the point of getting the kinda condensed work to move him around. We don't wanna overload him on any
single day, but wanted to see if we could push him just a little bit more.
"So we'll move him around again tomorrow [Saturday], and then see what it's like on game day."
Coker sustained the setback in the Week 3 loss to the Cleveland Browns, a game in which he was already coming in with an ankle injury. He was ruled out of the contest in the third quarter after recording two catches for 18 yards.
In addition to Reed, the Panthers also elevated cornerback Robert Rochell. The 28-year-old veteran could provide depth at the position following the recent injuries to starters Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson.
