The Carolina Panthers have brought up some help for the trenches following the beating they took in Week 3.
As announced on Tuesday, the team has signed guard Torricelli Simpkins III to their active roster. The second-year lineman first joined the Panthers as a member of their practice squad back on Sept. 1.
A Charlotte, N.C native, Simpkins split his collegiate career between North Carolina Central University (2020 to 2023) and the University of South Carolina (2024). The 6-foot-4, 312-pounder would then crack into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2025.
Simpkins could provide depth following the elbow injury to starting left guard Damien Lewis, who was in and out of this past Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Cleveland
Browns. Reports from earlier this morning have indicated that Lewis is unlikely to play in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions.
To make room for Simpkins on the active roster, the Panthers have waived linebacker Maema Njongmeta.
