The Carolina Panthers have made two major changes to their defensive staff.
As announced on Friday morning, the team has parted ways with defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley.
Evero was hired by Carolina ahead of the 2023 season, alongside previous head coach Frank Reich. He'd go on to orchestrate the league's fourth overall defense that year, allowing just 293.9 yards per game.
But the road has been bumpy ever since. Between a historically bad 2024 campaign, where the Panthers relinquished the most points in league history, and a rough first eight weeks here in 2026, Evero's standing grew shaky.
Carolina, through seven games, has allowed 349.6 yards per game (23rd) and 27.5 points per game (27th).
Per the release, which comes off their 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night, defensive line coach Todd Wash will take over as interim defensive coordinator.
