The Carolina Panthers have suffered worse losses than Sunday's 43-13 beatdown at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But there probably aren't many.
In case you were lucky enough to miss the game, the Panthers got humiliated in all three phases en route to their first divisional loss of the campaign. Their red-hot offense was halted, their special teams unit was mistake-ridden and their defense helped the Bucs accomplish something the NFL hasn't seen since 1958.
They were so bad that Pete Prisco at CBS Sports called it a "vile" performance across the board . . .

After the drubbing was over, head coach Dave Canales claimed that he'd never been part of a half of football like that—referring to 33-6 lead that Tampa took into the locker room at the break. Well, the truth is Canales has—because in his first game as Carolina's head coach, his team was starting at a 33-3 deficit after two quarters in New Orelans back in 2024.
The Panthers have come a long way since then—or at least it seems like they have. Bad losses happen to every team from time to time, but good ones tend not to ever get blown out quite like this.
Canales has some serious soul-searching to do after this loss, and it might be time to consider some staff changes to shake things up. At a minimum, defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and offensive line coach Joe Gilbert should be feeling some heat in their respective seats.
