The Carolina Panthers look more competitive right now than any time since the middle of the 2018 season. That's when Cam Newton's injuries began to take a toll on his performance, and the Panthers simply weren't the same from then on.
It's taken a long time, but Carolina seems to have finally found an adequate successor under center. Bryce Young's game has taken a massive leap forward four weeks into the 2026 season, and he appears ready to take on the official title of franchise quarterback—with the lucrative contract to follow.
Young had incredible command in the team's 32-26 win over the Detroit Lions this past Sunday night, and folks took notice—including Lions head coach Dan Campbell. Bleacher Report gave Young an 'A' grade for his performance,
along with this quote from Campbell after the game:
"Nothing that Bryce did shocked me today," Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters. "Bryce is a hell of a quarterback, man. He just is. He's dangerous, he's got a quick release. He can process it, he can see it, he's mobile, he can move around in the pocket. He was tough, tough today."
Young's outing was particularly impressive because he was missing two of his top three receivers—and, once again, got horrendous protection from his offensive line. But it didn't matter—as he completed 29 of his 41 throws for 329 yards and two touchdowns.
Going into the bye week, the Panthers have an opportunity to finally get (sort of) healthy for the first time this season. If Young can pick up where he left off in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, there should be no ceiling on what this team can accomplish.
