What is the story about?

As expected, the Carolina Panthers won't be moving forward with quarterback Kyle Trask . . . at least for now.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Panthers are parting ways with Trask in the cutdown to their initial 53-man roster. Fowler notes that Trask, who appeared in three preseason games for Carolina this summer, "acquitted himself well" and is an emergency quarterback option for the team.

Trask was brought in following the hamstring injury to third-stringer Haynes King. He'd go on to complete 29 of his 41 passing attempts for 252 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions over those three outings.

Before landing in Carolina three weeks ago, Trask—a second-round selection from the 2021 NFL Draft—spent his first four pro seasons with the Tampa

Bay Buccaneers. He'd also pick up an offseason stint with the Atlanta Falcons in 2025.

With Trask's release, the Panthers are (at the moment) carrying three quarterbacks on their roster—starter Bryce Young, backup Kenny Pickett and King.
