The Carolina Panthers have one of the hottest offenses in the NFL going into Week 2. In fact, they rank second in scoring behind only Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills—and since Allen might be an alien, one could make a case that Carolina has the best human-based offense in the game right now.
Starting quarterback Bryce Young is playing better than ever, and making use of all of his weapons—distributing two touchdowns to three different receivers, so far. Overall, he's passed for the second-most yards (648) and six scores.
But can the Panthers keep this up? While some insiders think so, CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco might not be convinced.
Here's his prediction for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns:
The Panthers are out on the road for
the second straight week after blowing out the Falcons, while the Browns are playing their first home game. Bryce Young is rolling for the Panthers, but I think the Browns defense will play well again here as they did in Tampa last week. The Browns take it in an upset. Pick: Browns 23, Panthers 20
Cleveland's defense is still respectable, even without two-time Defensive Player of the year Myles Garrett. But Tampa is looking so dysfunctional that it's hard to buy into the Browns' performance last week.
The "Factory of Sadness" is also host to the worst quarterback situation in the NFL, on account of Deshaun Watson's contract. Prior to kickoff this past Sunday, we learned that the Browns were contemplating a change at quarterback—with the possibility of Shedeur Sanders going under center against the Panthers. While Sanders had a rough rookie season, he did show some promise in his preseason debut—dropping two touchdowns and a passer rating over 100 on Carolina.
However, it appears that Watson's solid showing against the Buccaneers in Week 2 was enough to keep him in the starting quarterback spot—at least for now.
